Not much is known about Denise's life prior to or as the outbreak began, except that she was a general practitioner before. A few weeks later a disgruntled resident named Nicholas begins to rebel against Rick as the safe zone's new leader. She seems very concerned that he is bit, and says she needs to get him to the infirmary immediately, showing that Denise wants him to live, and believes he is a better person than before.
When Denise failed, Tara went to see how she was coping. Denise then agrees not to tell anyone.
