The bay here is a haven for otters and seals and sightings are frequent. There are few areas of ancient woodland on the island, but those that do exist are incredibly rich in plants and fungi. Established in 1997, it is a centre for visual arts, crafts and music. Numerous other birds can also be seen foraging along the strand line, including hooded crows who often fly into the air with shellfish, dropping them onto the rocks in an attempt to break the open the shells. Goldcrest and common crossbill nest in the large areas of conifer plantation that occur on the island. This area is home to the densest population of breeding golden eagles - Scotland’s national bird – in the world, and they are truly a sight to behold. Inverness The singer songwriter Colin MacIntyre famously once used the name Mull Historical Society as a pseudonym. The Isle of Mull is also known as Eagle Island, and you can guess why. Craignure is a bustling port when the ferry arrives, and the sea views across the bay looking up Loch Linnhe towards Ben Nevis are stunning.
