It’s not every day you photograph a marriage by a ruined castle on a tiny island off the west coast of Scotland.

Kerrera is in fact quite a large island and can be compared with Scarba, Seil and Luing, is scarcely populated and provides excellent shelter for the Oban harbour.

At the south end, close to the ruins of Gylen Castle is the Kerrera Tea Garden and Bunkhouse. The island is home to 64 full time residents.

There isn’t much more I can say about Kerrera, other than rambling on about the peace and quiet, but if you find yourself in the Oban area, you should make a trip to see the peaceful Isle of Kerrera. The invite said “Come prepared for adventure” and the subtitle of the day was “A glorious shambles”. There is always plenty to explore in Glen Coe! To get to Kerrera you travel a mile or so past the ferry and around the corner to Gallanach.
