It covers a lot of the same ground that Bryan Chappel’s Christ-Centered Preaching book does but in a different way. This book challenges and targets those who need to preach the word in the twenty-first century and encourages all to take that step to not be afraid of preaching. This part of the book contains guidance that is harder to find in other homiletical resources than Parts One and Three. Subtitled ‘communicating faith in an age of scepticism’, the author sets out the importance of making Christ central to all preaching and placing Him at the core of all that we communicate. Chapter 1 argues that preaching is an unfolding of the Bible, not the preacher’s own thoughts. Dr. Keller’s book is very good. Keller’s book is a supercharged approach to expository preaching. Its primary audience is theological students, pastors and scholars.

In this paragraph Keller goes deeper than most of us in both directions—both in the direction of acknowledging that the Bible does address felt human needs, and in the direction of recognizing that our own innate perception of our needs will invariably fall short of Scripture’s revelation of who we really are and how deep our deficiencies really run.
