It’s rather like seeing in the dark, though there’s a bit of noise. That's a whole lot of money for a phone? What looks bad on paper, manifests itself in practice. I would set your expectations for “okay” zoom at 30x and nothing more.
I know this because my 13-year-old daughter is repulsed by all three. Every few months we get new models that seem to outgun the others with some new whizbang feature. The lowest of the three camera modules finally looks into the distance - and around the corner.

Touch buttons overlaid on the image preview allow you to switch quickly to ultra-wide and telephoto views, but unexpectedly the latter engages a 5x hybrid zoom, with digital zoom applied over and above the 4x optical zoom lens. While it doesn’t live up to the firm’s most hyperbolic claims regarding the 108MP sensor or the 100x ‘space zoom’, this shouldn’t detract from the fact that it’s still one of the best phone cameras available. Update May 5: Since the Galaxy S20 Ultra is still new, there aren’t many sales or price drops, and not much has changed.
There are some really neat new camera modes available to the Samsung Galaxy S20 family, including Single Take, Night Mode, Night Hyperlapse, and more. I simply find the design to be ultra understated. The buttons have tight, but satisfying, travel and feedback. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G is ultra all right.
But that's what we're used to from Samsung, and when it comes to high-contrast shots, disappointment quickly sets in. If you look at the 0.5x shot and the 100x shot and realize they came from the same phone, you have to agree it’s impressive to some degree. ID4me is an internet service that enables its users to log in to many different internet services with one account. The HDR automatic does not fire reliably even with high differences in brightness between landscape and sky.
So how about the picture quality? Single Take is the best of the bunch. Alternately, you can drag the slider up and down to find the right amount of zoom for the shot. If you’d prefer something smaller and cheaper, the Mate10+ remains an excellent alternative. The S20 Ultra 5G doesn’t fit well in pockets, despite its slippery surfaces, and more or less requires a case for protection, which will only make it bigger.
